Quadrilateral in Saratoga Springs, situated within Saratoga County, dedicated to manufacturing

Quad has announced its decision to cease operations at its facilities in Saratoga Springs, N.Y., and Bolingbrook, Ill., during the first half of 2024. This strategic move is part of the company’s ongoing efforts to optimize its platform in response to the dynamic shifts in the media landscape, as outlined in the official statement.

The company cited various industry trends as contributing factors to this decision, including changes in the volume of certain print categories, such as magazines, and a notable increase in postal costs. The Saratoga Springs plant, employing approximately 435 individuals, is scheduled to close its doors by May 4.

Joel Quadracci, Quad’s Chairman, President, and CEO, emphasized the company’s commitment to evolving into a marketing experience (MX) company, providing comprehensive resources for seamless marketing execution. Despite the closures, Quadracci underlined the enduring significance of print as a vital and strategic component of Quad’s integrated marketing platform, encompassing solutions across both traditional and digital channels.

Originally established in 1984 for newsweekly magazine production, the Saratoga Springs facility’s operations will be relocated to Quad’s alternative facilities in Hartford, Wisconsin, The Rock, Georgia, and Springfield, Massachusetts.

Quad is taking proactive measures to support affected employees during this transition. The company is encouraging them to consider relocating to other company facilities, and to incentivize this, they are offering relocation incentives. However, for those who choose not to relocate, Quad is providing a separation package that includes severance pay, continuation of health care benefits, and assistance in transitioning to new career opportunities.

This decision reflects Quad’s strategic focus on adapting to the evolving media landscape while ensuring a continued emphasis on the integral role of print within its broader marketing solutions. As the company optimizes its platform, it remains dedicated to delivering a seamless marketing experience for its clients, with print maintaining its position as a significant element of Quad’s comprehensive and integrated approach to marketing solutions across diverse channels.
