Police apprehended a suspect involved in both carjacking and domestic violence after a prolonged high-speed pursuit spanning from the Inland Empire to Los Angeles County on Wednesday night. The chase, lasting over an hour, saw the suspect persisting despite their car’s tires being shredded by spike strips and undergoing at least one PIT maneuver.
The incident commenced before 10 p.m. following a report of domestic violence and car theft by the suspect from his girlfriend. Initially spotted in downtown Riverside, police attempted to intercept the suspect, who fled, first navigating through surface streets and then onto the eastbound 91 Freeway.
CHP units joined the pursuit as the suspect accelerated to speeds nearing 100 mph, traversing the northbound 215 and eventually onto the 210 toward the San Gabriel Valley and Los Angeles.
In Los Angeles, the suspect encountered spike strips, causing at least one tire to deflate, but they persisted. A PIT maneuver was executed on the 101 Freeway in Encino, momentarily halting the suspect before they resumed their journey, dragging a bumper piece as they traveled west through the San Fernando Valley.
Despite significant damage to the vehicle, the suspect continued toward Ventura County, with the pursuit eventually culminating in Agoura Hills, where CHP officers managed to apprehend the suspect around 11 p.m.
The pursuit originated from a domestic violence incident leading to a carjacking in the Riverside area around 8:55 p.m. Despite efforts by the Riverside Police Department to halt the suspect at 9:30 p.m., they persisted in evading capture.
Throughout the pursuit, spanning through the Inland Empire, San Gabriel Valley, and Los Angeles County, the suspect maintained high speeds, eventually reaching the 101 Freeway in the San Fernando Valley, where they were ultimately brought to a stop after further PIT maneuvers
